Air Design developed a comprehensive wayfinding scheme for Digital City, enhancing navigation and user experience across its office spaces, amenities, and residential areas.
Developed by Osool, Digital City spans 400,000 m² and features a blend of office spaces, residential units, and dynamic public amenities crafted for seamless urban living. This top-quality mixed-use development serves as the ultimate destination to work, live, and relax.
Air Design’s goal for the comprehensive wayfinding scheme was to improve the usability of the Digital City environment and elevate the experience for both visitors and residents. The wayfinding scheme promotes a more walkable environment, fosters a strong sense of place, and embodies a spirit of innovation throughout the district, creating a cohesive and user-friendly experience across the entire estate.
Digital City presented one of Air Design’s most complex wayfinding briefs in the region a 400,000 sqm mixed-use environment spanning offices, residential units, retail, and public amenity spaces, all needing to function as a coherent, navigable whole for a diverse mix of daily users. The wayfinding strategy started from the user journey outward: understanding how a resident moving through the development daily has different navigation needs from a visitor arriving for the first time, or a worker navigating between buildings.
The scheme promotes walkability as a core design principle a deliberate counterpoint to the car-dominated environments typical of large-scale Saudi developments. Signage placement, pedestrian route legibility, and the use of landmark anchoring were all applied to encourage movement on foot between the district’s zones. The 2,200-unit residential community within Digital City will rely on this wayfinding system as part of its everyday infrastructure a standard of permanence and quality that informed every specification decision.
This project is part of Air Design’s growing portfolio of wayfinding and placemaking work in Riyadh and across Saudi Arabia. For more information about our work in the region, visit our wayfinding and signage design services.
