With Air Design celebrating its 21st Anniversary this year, we decided to take a journey back into the past and look at some of our favourite projects which we have completed over the past 21 years……
So, let’s start back at the beginning with a project from just after we first opened our doors in 1999. A friend introduced us to the famous restaurateur Soren Jessen who needed a logo and membership card for his new Nicky Haslam designed, modern European restaurant and private members club, Noble Rot.
Botrytis Cinerea, otherwise known as Noble Rot is a good fungus, which in the right climatic conditions attacks very ripe, thin-skinned grapes and allows winemakers to produce fabulous dessert wines. We always liked the logo designed by Matt Knight which referenced not only the grape bunch, but also the magical fungal spores – counterpointed by suitably understated typography.
For the membership card we suggested something slightly precious, but not bling. Ian (the I in Air) brought his fine sense of materials and suggested an acid etched metal card in phosphor bronze that would age well, like a good wine. The membership card was engraved with members details and would tarnish with age.
Noble Rot was relaunched as a classic gallic brasserie Kilo in 2006 and then in 2007 it was sold and relaunched as the famous (or infamous) Maddox Club.
